I just received an email from a buyer’s agent on one of my Davenport Short Sale Listings with an offer attached. Good news right? Not so much this time. The buyer’s agent had actually printed out the forms, filled them out and taken pictures of them, as in with a handheld camera, for the buyer to sign. Then the buyer faxed them back to the buyer’s agent as is. Every page was unreadable so I called to ask if she could put together a readable offer for the sellers to review. “Really? I didn’t know they weren’t readable. I just forwarded them to you when I got them”, she says. At this point I’m thinking....OK, these people aren’t serious right? Am I on Punk’d or something?
A few minutes later I’m reading the email again and realize it contains the entire thread between the buyer and the agent. There were all kinds of helpful bits of information in it. Like this choice bit from the agent to the buyer: “I know the forms don’t look very good but, since there are multiple offers, we probably won’t get your offer accepted anyway.” Are you kidding me?! So you knew going in that your buyer’s offer wasn’t going to be accepted and didn’t advice them to raise the price or change any of the terms? Remember, I have their entire email strand in front of me. I’m shaking my head here. I’m just at a loss....
Why someone would say that in the first place is really beyond me. But I know this....The Bare Minimum Should NOT Be Your Goal. Your customers deserve your respect and full attention. To give them anything else is shirking your responsibility and duty as a Professional Realtor. It's not like it's breaking work to put together a presentable offer for your buyer. Come on, there's nothing wrong with working hard for your living.
This pertains to life in general as well. Don’t settle for second place because it’s easy. Don’t shirk your responsibilities because it’s easy. Don’t do the bare minimum because it’s easy. I know your grandfather probably told you nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Well he was right, that’s a true statement!!!
